Toledo in the morning

Image
On our last full day i headed to the Roman city of Toledo.  Built on a hill surrounded by a river it was spectacular.  Like many old cities it has a Jewish quarter (with street tiles in  Hebrew letters) and an almost 1000 year old synagogue (which became a church). The city is dazzling from across the river The Jewish quarter is fairly clearly marked with tiles in Hebrew.  I did not have the heart to correct the guide when she read this is "Hi" not "Chai"

Last night

Just time for one last walk around Madrid at night.  Up at 3:30am to start journey home tomorrow.

Segovia in the afternoon

You enter the old city by walking under an immense Roman aqueduct.   I have seen ones in pictures, but they do not do the real ones justice. The picture does not come close to capturing the beauty of this cathedral This castle had some of the nicest ceilings of the trip

Dinner at 9pm

We eschewed tradition with a slightly early dinner and walked afterwards.  We went Spanish cuisine but all vegetarian.

Mas Madrid

I started my day in the San Miguel market The classic breakfast enhanced by sangria on tap. I had to try vermouth - apparently it's what the hip Spaniards enjoy. And then explored the surroundings

There is something special about Spain

I don’t know what it is, but there is something different here. Something welcoming and charming.

El Retiro Park

Couldn’t  miss a chance to enjoy more greenery This included an exhibit of modern art.  Oddly I found this very relaxing.  After visiting museums covered in representative art, this exhibit was not nearly as taxing on the eyes. Of course the city itself feels like living art
