Visiting our home town
I heard stories about the town my maternal grandfather came from in Poland when I was a small child. A shopkeeper who was his friend (my grandfather didn’t speak much English) told us about the town Lancut. He described it as a small town where if a car came through, it was a major event.
Josh and I decided to visit since it was a was only a couple hours away by train. I also learned that the L with the line through is pronounced like a W (W is pronounced as V)
We were able visit the old synagogue (built almost 300 years ago). It survived the war and is being slowly restored. I was quite surprised since there are so Jews left in Poland.
What family never mentioned (probably because it was not part of their experience of Lancut) is that there is also a lovely a castle in the town.
I am fairly sure my ancestors did not get invited to dinner as the castle. I am also fairly confident that this restaurant is a relatively new addition.

What an amazing and probably surreal experience to walk through the town your ancestors walked through...the synagogue is beautiful and intriguing to me.
